You can dual wield finesse light weapons and dual wield hand crossbows which make them very good at melee and range while having very good AC. The problem is you kinda want 3 levels of rogue / thief to get a extra bonus action for your offhand.Unless you are building a Strength based Rogue, then "Great Weapon Master" is pointless. You need to stick with "Finesse" weapons for Dex build, so dual wielding.
