Kubota mower deck won't raise

Just bought a Kubota bx1880 with the same mid-deck adjustment knob stuck problem. My temporary fix which seems to work is to raise the deck all the way up and shut the tractor off. Now I put a 4x4 block 1/2 of an inch taller than the bottom of the deck on all 4 corners to completely take the pressure off of the bottom gear.
