Our Work Locally. At United Way of Douglas & Pope Counties we fight for the Health, Education and Financial Stability of every person in our community. We do this by making grants to local nonprofits and hosting our own programs that meet identified gaps in our community.The HSC continues and is supported by funding from grants as well as the City and County. The HSC now sits under the umbrella organization United Way, Douglas County. Family Promise of Lawrence and Tenants to Homeowners serve on an advisory board for the HSC.The United Way of Douglas County has more than $150,000 in grant funds to give to local agencies that provide food, utility and shelter support, but those who are interested don't have much time to apply.
