I've gotten zMerge working, and I'm following Lexy's merging practices, but I'm stuck on the last step where you use merge plugins hide to disable/hide the plugins you've merged.

SVRMO WabbaJack is a perfect starting point if you've got a decent rig, else use FUS WabbaJack if your rig is low end.
